If the grass in Estella’s fur is anything to go by, you can guess how much she enjoyed exploring the farm! 🌿🐾 Calling, “Estella, come back!” didn’t make the slightest difference. She happily wandered around all four acres, sniffing every interesting scent she could find, until she finally decided she’d had enough and sat down for a rest. That’s when we managed to take these photos!
Estella is Nikie’s mum, the young spaniel we introduced a few weeks ago. We rescued them both after purchasing them from their previous owner to get them out of the situation they were living in.
Estella is only 20 months old, yet she has already been forced to have two litters. She was bought as a puppy to be used for breeding, simply to make money. At an age when she should have been enjoying life and growing up herself, she was already raising puppies. 💔
Nikie is from her first litter. We were told that all of the puppies from the second litter had died. We managed to rescue one of those puppies too, and although we did everything we could, they sadly passed away just three days later.
This is the heartbreaking reality for so many dogs used for backyard breeding. They are treated as a way to make money, while their welfare and the welfare of their puppies are ignored. The victims are always the dogs.
Thankfully, that life is now behind Estella.
She is everything you could wish for in a companion—sweet, gentle, sociable, playful and full of love. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats, and she’s happiest exploring, following her nose and discovering the world around her. She’s finally getting the chance to just be a young dog instead of being treated as a breeding machine.
Estella has never shown any aggression towards the other animals here. She has a kind, gentle nature and has so much love to give.
Now all she needs is a family of her own.
